BRING THE IRRELEVANT LEADER MESSAGE TO YOUR TEAM

full/half day workshop. virtual or in-person

Great leaders aren’t defined by how essential they are - they’re defined by how well their teams thrive without them. Drawing from over two decades of leadership across military, public service, and entrepreneurship, Phil Jewell challenges the status quo of leadership. Through real stories—from leading troops in Afghanistan to navigating corporate complexities, this workshop equips attendees with the mindset and tools to step back, trust more, and invite others to step up.

Most leadership programs recycle the same ideas with new labels, but The Irrelevant Leader Program is different, very different. Built on original IP and a ground breaking book written from real-world leadership experience, this program flips the script: leaders don’t need to have all the answers - they need to build teams that can thrive without them. If you're tired of the same corporate training, and want something that actually changes how your leaders lead, this is it. Designed and delivered by people who have led across countries, continents and cultures.

Workshop outline

  • 1. what does it mean to be an irrelevant leader?

We start by redefining leadership itself. You’ll explore the paradox that the most successful leaders make themselves less central, not more. Through stories, examples, and discussion, we’ll unpack how being “irrelevant” doesn’t mean unimportant - it means building a team so capable and confident that your absence isn’t a crisis.

  • 2. the mindset of the irrelevant leader

We’ll examine the beliefs and attitudes that set Irrelevant Leaders apart, including humility, trust, and service over ego. You’ll identify your own mindset patterns and see how small shifts in thinking can create big changes in how your team takes ownership and steps up.

  • 3. why is it hard to let go of control?

Letting go is simple in theory but difficult in practice. In this session, we’ll uncover the psychological and cultural reasons leaders hold on too tightly -fear of mistakes, pressure to perform, or habits formed in earlier roles -and offer strategies to overcome those barriers.

  • 4. Deeper dive into the 8 principles

You’ll get hands-on with the eight core principles from The Irrelevant Leader. Each principle is explored through real-world examples and practical exercises that help you connect them to your own leadership challenges. This section is where theory turns into practical application.

  • 5. Your path to becoming an irrelevant leader

Here we create your roadmap. You’ll identify where you are today, what gaps exist between your current approach and the Irrelevant Leader mindset, and the specific steps you can take to close that gap. You’ll leave with a clear, personalized action plan you can implement immediately.

  • 6. The Art of Delegation (online learning module)

Delegation is the keystone skill for becoming irrelevant. This self-paced online module (included with the workshop and completed on own time and pace after the workshop) walks you through how to delegate with clarity, confidence, and accountability—ensuring tasks aren’t just completed, but that your team grows stronger through the process.
